Researching the space between process and structure.
ASK Microstructure is a place to develop, connect and explain ideas in materials processing and characterization.
The questions behind the work
What determines whether a solidification front remains planar or breaks into cells and dendrites? How do local transport, crystallography and thermal conditions become a three dimensional microstructure? Which measurements reveal the mechanism rather than only its final appearance?
These questions connect experimental solidification, X-ray and electron characterization, quantitative image analysis, and physics informed control. The long term aim is to close the loop between a desired structure, an experiment in progress, and the process variables that can change its trajectory.
Measure evolution, understand mechanisms, then use that understanding to steer the next experiment.
What you will find here
The Research section maps connected scientific directions. Education develops selected concepts from their assumptions and governing equations. Both sections will grow as projects and notes mature.
